She sits in her chair, head nodding in sleep.
I don't hear a sound, not one little peep.
Then suddenly she wakes, and heads for the door.
She looks at me like she's never seen me before.
Her short
term memory is gone you see,
I'm with her a lot, but she doesn't know me.
She holds onto her purse, says who are you?
Why are you here, what are you going to do?
I speak
from a distance, in tones soft and low,
Reassuring her quickly, that I'm someone she knows.
She smiles and feels safe a few minutes and then,
She forgets our talk, it starts over again.
She
remembers things from the distant past,
Those memories for her, will have to last.
Please bless her Lord, she's lost and alone,
Even though she's here, in her very own home.
